Damaged Engine

Engine damage can be caused by many reasons and different types of damages require different treatment. But is it possible that a damaged engine can be fixed? In most cases, your mechanic will ask you to replace the engine because once an engine is damaged, chances of its repair and proper functionality become thin. There are only certain circumstances where you can take your vehicle for a repair and it will run as smooth as before. The type of damage of your engine will decide whether it is fixable or not. Below, we have described different types of engine damages and how you can fix them.

Blown Engine

Blown Engine

Your car’s engine consists of a lot of other parts that complete it. So, when we say that your engine has blown, the repair depends on what blew inside the engine. A blown engine is usually a result of a failure is the rotating assembly that comprises of the pistons, crankshaft, and connecting rods. When the rotating assembly cannot handle the high load of RPM, holes are punched in the engine blocks. Most of the times, engine blocks are irreparable. Blown pistons are also irreparable but you can easily find its replacement. If the head gaskets have blown up, they might be repaired. However, it will be expensive enough that you better buy a new head gasket instead of repairing the old one.

Seized Engine

There are many reasons why your engine may be seized, but low lubrication and lack of oil is the biggest cause of engine seizure. If you do not check the engine oil timely and don’t change the oil, the parts of the engine will not perform as smoothly against each other as they should. As a result, your car engine will start getting overheating and slowly losing its power. If you do not get it checked during the initial symptoms, the engine will seize as a result. Getting a seized engine fixed is the most difficult and costly thing because every part of the engine is affected. An estimate of £4000 is needed to get a seized engine to start again whereas you can buy a new engine within the same price.

Flood Damaged Engine

The engine breathes air, so when the ferrous material gets submerged in water, it can get really expensive to repair. However, the flood-damaged engine is usually easier to repair than that of a seized engine. In most cases, engine carbon cleaning services are needed after the repairs so that any excessive carbon or other debris stuck in the air intake of the engine is removed. Other than that, the radiator is the most vulnerable part of the engine when it comes to water damage. If the radiator is completely submerged in water, it is better to replace it instead of risking the performance of the engine. Also look for other areas such as crankcase, fuel system, power steering, brakes, and fuel injectors. The engine oil gets mixed with water after being submerged in water for so long, which is why an oil change is also required.
